Paul Smith was born in Nottingham in 1946. He dropped out of school at the age of fifteen to become a cyclist and started working in a department store. Two years later, however, he had a bicycle accident and after six months of recovery he ended up in the art scene. Paul Smith started then with evening tailoring classes. He was soon discovered and opened his first store.
